Hello! My name is Jessica Norfleet, and this is my writing e-portfolio. I am a graduate from the University of Central Florida (UCF) where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing and Rhetoric and a Marketing Minor. I currently work as a Writing Contractor at Tupperware Brands US and Canada, in the Communications Department, where I write, edit and proofread news articles, fliers, training documents, brochures, catalogs and digital marketing materials. I am passionate about research, professional writing, and technical communication. When I first came to UCF, I struggled to find my place in this new academic setting. I picked a major my parents wanted and to be completely honest, I was miserable. Then I met my ENC 1102 professor and she changed my college experience. She introduced me to the Writing and Rhetoric Minor and that is where I fell in love with Research and Writing. |
As I began to find my identity as a student, I discovered that this minor wasn't just an add on to a more "hire-able" major, it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my career. I quickly switched my major (which was marketing at the time) and minor to create a better fit for my remaining semesters in my undergraduate degree.
This degree has given me many opportunities to build myself as a writer. I have been able to participate in Writing Symposiums, Showcases, and gain real world writing experience. The courses within this program are geared toward helping students do what they love in and out of the classroom. For example, my professional lives and literacy class introduced me to the internship program at Tupperware Brands US and Canada. I was able to take what I learned in both my major and minor, and apply it to a professional workplace.
With the completion of my undergraduate degree, I plan to return to school to get my masters in Mass Communication, as well as a Ph. D in Rhetoric.
Apart from writing and academics, I enjoy rock climbing, sewing, baking, and traveling.
